Merry Christmas!

I hope you had a fabulous Christmas! Our family has enjoyed spending TONS of time with our families! We're currently in Kansas City, MO, with Sam's family. We enjoyed having a "blizzard" yesterday and playing in the snow! We've gotten about 6-8 inches of snow so far! Sam was able to go sledding and snowboarding in his grandma's neighborhood! I'm so not used to this weather in Georgia!

This is our Christmas card from this year! Merry Christmas!
Can you believe that 2010 is in less than a week?! Time to make my resolution list!

Husband in charge...

I only asked Sam to watch Michael for a little bit while I got some stuff done. This is what happens when I leave my husband in charge.... Seriously??
*Sam is fully aware that I posted this to the blog...nothing was done behind the husband's back! :)

Homemade Christmas

I want to make more gifts for people this year! I love the thought of a homemade gift, so I thought I'd share some of the ideas I've come across with you!

Kelly at Kelly's Korner made these cute ornaments last year...so simple and so cute! I might have to make some of these to go on our tree!
I love the idea of these coasters....Life in Grace has the tutorial to make these. You start with an unfinished tile from the hardware store...they're like 30 cents! I've seen these in little boutique shops for over $20. I have a feeling some of my family members and friends will be getting a homemade set of coasters this year! I think these would be cute with handprints or footprints on them...great idea for people with new babies!
I've also got a few more ideas up my sleeve, but I can't share those until after Christmas or I will spoil the surprise! I've been working a lot with the sewing machine! :)

Are you making homemade gifts for people this year? Please share your ideas! I don't have everyone crossed off of my list!

Thankful...

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We sure did! It was a busy holiday, but so much fun! I love spending time with our families. They are so special to us! Sam and I are both blessed with such beautiful people in our lives and we are so thankful! Thank you, parents and grandparents, for helping us grow into who we are today. We hope that we can be such great parents to our little boy and to our future children!

Here's a couple of little videos to bring a smile to your face! Sam and I watch the Georgia Bulldog video every day! We cannot get enough of our little boy! We are so thankful for this miracle of life!

Side note...I don't know why these videos keep getting cut off when I put them on here, but you get the point! :)

GIVEAWAY!!!

I have officially been blogging for a year on Friday! I have seen many people celebrate this "blog birthday" by having a giveaway. This came at perfect timing for me because I've just started really working with my embroidery machine and creating a lot of fun things! I would love to create something just for you!

I will be giving away an appliqued shirt made by me! This "little man" shirt is precious, don't you think? If you have a little boy or know a little boy, this would look fantastic! If you have a little girl in mind, I will make you a shirt with an appliqued initial with her embroidered name.
Just leave a comment on this post and let me know that you are interested! I will choose a winner and post on this blog on Saturday morning at 10:00 using a random number generator. If you win, I will post it on my blog and contact you about what you want (size, color, etc).

Of course if you don't win, you can always visit my new shop - PolkaDots and Doodles. I just opened my shop doors (a virtual shop at Etsy). You can visit my shop here.

I have dreamed for quite a few years to open a children's boutique and now I'm on my way. I got a monogramming machine for my birthday (in May) and I have been figuring out how to use it. I'm finally at a point where I can create things for other people. Just about everything in our house has a monogram or a name on it. I'm going to specialize in childrens gift items and custom monogramming.

You know Christmas is coming SOON! I would love to help you check off a few items on your list...

Coming up...

My "blog birthday" is coming up on Friday and I want to celebrate!

I will be giving a fun little something away to one of the FEW readers that I have! I'm not going to tell you what it is, but it's fun! I have to take pictures tonight and then I will put the official giveaway post on here. Your comments on this post don't count. Although I would love to hear your excitement!

Stay tuned...I will post the giveaway tonight. I will pick a winner Saturday morning!

YAY!! I love surprises, don't you!?

3 years old

Today is a special day. Our first baby, Sugar, is 3 years old today!

Sam got her as a Christmas present for me when she was just about 6 weeks old. She was this little furball in her kennel under the tree. Those first few nights were so sad because she would whine all night long. She missed her mommy and brothers and sisters. I had to sleep with her to comfort her.
She grew up fast though! She's a big dog now! She definitely has been put on the back-burner now that Michael has entered our lives. We're sorry, Sugar! We still love you! We're thankful for your energy and your zest for life! Maybe we'll get you a big BONE today for your birthday!

This picture was just taken this morning after I asked her if she wanted a bone! I love when she tilts her head like that! Happy Birthday, Sugar Bear!

We are boat owners....

Funny story....
When Sam and I first got married, we were in college. When we first got a good sum of money, we bought a boat. We do not live ON a lake, but very near the lake. We thought we would take advantage of our natural resources. Now, we lived in the basement of his parents house...yet, we still bought a boat. It makes me laugh to look back at that time in our lives. We had some good times on that boat! We would go out on the lake every single day and stay out until the sun was all the way down.

Sad story....
That boat eventually died. I think it was from 1988, so it was bound to happen. That dead boat sat in the front yard of my in-laws house for about a year. Then, we moved that dead boat to the back yard of some friends of ours. We tried to sell it, but it was taking forever! Nobody wanted to buy a dead boat. However, it eventually happened! We sold that dead boat!

Happy Story....
Sam loves to wakeboard. He gets filled with joy from being on the water! Well, he gets his joy from the Lord first, but then it's from being on the water! After we sold our old boat, Sam was just waiting for a good deal to come along so we could get another one. His dream boat was a Moomba. They're made specifically for wakeboarding and water-skiing. These boats are a little pricey, so we were willing to settle for an older boat that's not as powerful. But one day, Sam's searching paid off! He found a Moomba for an unbelievable price! He drove all the way to Alabama to get it! He was in love.....
We received our boat a few weeks ago and Sam has already been on the lake about 15 times! He is seriously crazy! The lake water is NOT warm anymore, people! He's out there (sometimes in a wetsuit, but sometimes not) just having the time of his life!! Michael has even enjoyed some rides in the new boat (with a lifejacket and blanket...not in the water).
I'm looking forward to long, hot, summer days with our family and friends out in the boat. Our friends, the Thomes also got a pontoon boat recently. Now, we're trying to convince the Tolberts to join in on the fun! Summer is a long way away, but I'm ready already!

These amazing pictures were taken by our good friend, Jamey. Check out his site here.

Happy Halloween!!

We had such a fun Halloween this year! My dad had his 60th birthday party on Halloween night. We were able take Michael and his cousin Kennedy trick-or-treating around the neighborhood to a few houses. Kennedy was Tinkerbell and Michael was Peter Pan! It was Michael's first time trick-or-treating. He did great! He loved that people kept putting things in his bucket!

I always love an excuse to dress up in a costume! I was Tinkerbell (like Kennedy) and Sam was Shaun White (he's a snowboarder...you should Google him...his costume was awesome!)

It just so happened that G-Daddy dressed as a pirate.... it went along perfectly with our ensemble! He made a great Captain Hook! Happy Birthday, G-Daddy!
Michael and Kennedy discovered the candy basket for the trick-or-treaters. They thought they had struck gold! It was jack-pot!! They kept taking all the candy and putting it into their candy buckets!
Now the goal is for me to stay out of the candy this week...so far, not so good!

What does a cow say?

Michael's latest favorite activity is telling you what different animals say. It was hard to capture it on video, but here it is! You'll notice he gets distracted easily. We were using the webcam, so he was watching himself on the computer! Oh, the technology these kids will grow up with!

Enjoy!

Pumpkin Farm

On Wednesday, Michael and I took our annual trip to Burt's Pumpkin Farm with Grandma. My brother David and his daughter Kennedy joined us too.

Last year, Michael slept in his stroller just about the whole time. This year was so much fun with him! He was able to beat on the huge pumpkins, run up and down the aisles, and pick out one on his own!

We went on the hayride and got to see the pumpkin patch where the pumpkins are grown! We also got to see talking pumpkins! :)
Michael and I both picked out pumpkins to take home. This was Michael's choice...
This week's agenda:
-carve pumpkins
-roast pumpkin seeds
-make some pumpkin muffins
-enjoy our fall snacks!

Traveling Man

Last weekend, we took quite a trip with our little man. We had a whirlwind of a weekend with a trip to Chicago and Indiana. It was Michael's first flight! Sam and I were both surprised at how well he did on the plane! The portable DVD player was a must-have. Elmo helped him through the whole experience. He didn't even notice his ears popping!

Sam's brother and his wife live right in the heart of Chi-town, so it's always nice to stay with them when we visit! I mean, they're looking at the Sears tower from their living room. Of course we had to see a few places in the short time we were in the city. We made sure that Michael saw the beloved statue of Michael Jordan at the United Center. We also went to the Lincoln Park Zoo and enjoyed some deep-dish pizza!

We also had the opportunity to attend a wedding of some good friends of ours in Indiana. We were able to stay in a really nice house on the lake. It was such a blessing to be there and relax. Definitely a mini-vacation for us! Thanks Cindi, Kathy, and the Yoder family!

Michael had never been to a wedding before, so we didn't know what to expect. We thought Elmo might help him get through it as well. However, Michael was done with Elmo. He wanted to roam around the church. Sam got to see the whole wedding and I got to listen to it while Michael and I were climbing stairs in the lobby. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful ceremony! God is going to bless this marriage and use them for His glory. What a fun thing to be a part of!

It was soooo warm in Georgia a week ago and now Fall has definitely made it's debut. Night time is pretty chilly, but the days have been feeling wonderful! We made our annual trip to Burt's Pumpkin Farm today, so those pictures will be coming soon! Happy fall, y'all!

Well, Michael attended his first wedding on Saturday and this is his version of The Wedding Dance...

Lately...

Wow...another 2 weeks gone by without so much as a "hello" from me! I've even been at home with no excuse for a missing blog entry! We have had a fantastic week though! I finally joined a gym and I've been working out almost every day! They have a great kids place for Michael to play. I also started the Esther Bible Study by Beth Moore. I've done the first week so far and I think God is really going to teach me through her story.

We went to the park a couple of times and had a picnic with some good friends! We've drawn a lot of sidewalk chalk pictures, watched some Elmo, sorted shapes, practiced our coloring skills, and played "I'm going to get you" a few times! We are loving this time that we get to spend together. I'm planning another fun week for us this week, but Michael has had a runny nose. He's got some new molars coming in, so I'm hoping that's all it is. This morning, he wanted to cuddle with me and watch TV. He is not much of a TV watcher...unless it's Elmo. But, he sat in my lap with his head leaned against me. We watched probably an hour straight of TV. He is definitely not feeling well. Poor thing. He's still happy, though, and still eating pretty well...

Speaking of eating...Michael is in a stage where he wants to feed himself! He does well with SOME finger foods - mostly fruit, bread, and cheese. He doesn't really like the texture of meat and some veggies in his mouth, so he'll spit those out or give them to Sugar! I've still been giving him some pureed baby food (mostly the meat ones), so that he'll still get his protein, but he usually won't even finish the jar. I think it's because he's wanting to do it himself. Needless to say, Michael's diet seems a little limited these days. Gone are the days where I would choose a nice variety of fruit and veggies for him to eat!

We're getting a lot of practice using the spoon and the spork. And, we're making a lot of messes! Here's some pictures of dinner the other night. I'll post more pictures of our fun week later! I've also got a video in the works of Michael making his animal noises...keep checking back!

Goooooo Dawgs!

It's been way too long since my last post! I know so many of you follow me and have just been dying to see what's happening in our lives (said with much sarcasm). I'm STILL working full-time right now and it just soaks up my time and energy. When I come home, I just want to play with Michael, fix our lunches, and go to sleep!

This past week was busy busy...our good friends, the Thomes, had their second child...a boy! His name is Ethan Jacob and he is just precious! He's so tiny...weighing in at 6 pounds. I'm sure Robin will be posting pictures before long...(hint hint, Robin!)

I love this time of year when the weather gets a little chilly in morning and night! It means three things...I can almost start wearing hoodies, our small group starts making s'mores,  AND football has begun! I didn't grow up loving football as much as Sam, but I have come to enjoy watching a game or two since we've been married! Have you ever heard of Fantasy Football? Sam has like a million teams that he keeps up with...insane! This year, the Borg side of the family started our own Fantasy Football team. It gives me something to cheer for when we're watching NFL.

On Saturday morning I went to Athens and had breakfast with a dear friend, Julie. By the way, Big City Bread is such a fun restaurant! We sat outside and enjoyed our fruit, grits, and french toast while Michael colored the sidewalk with chalk! I went in the morning, so I missed out on all the game day fun. I had to get the car back home so that Sam and his dad could head back out to Athens to watch the Dawgs play that night!

Michael and I stayed home and cheered from our living room. We're still working on that dawg bark. His doesn't really sound like a Bulldog...more like a little yorkie! Before the game started, we played with the football out in the driveway. It's just about as big as the little man himself!

We miss you all! We promise to be checking in more often! Kisses to you!!!

Radio Flyer

Today we had a photo shoot with a couple of Michael's birthday presents. He got this Radio Flyer wagon from my mom (Grandma) and the cute Osh-Kosh overalls from Sam's mom (Go-Go).

I love the way the red wagon stands out against the green grass. But of course, the handsome little boy in all the pictures is what really makes them fabulous!
Michael let me know when it was time to go inside. Too many mosquitos outside...

Party Time!!

This past Saturday was Michael's first birthday party. Sam's parents were in Africa and some of our friends were out of town in July. We wanted all the people we love to be together to celebrate his first year of life, so we waited a while to have his party.

We didn't go with a theme party this year. I figured that we will have many years ahead of us when Michael can choose his own party theme. We just went with the color scheme of green and blue and hosted the party in our carport. Our house is plenty big enough for our little family, but it can get quite crowded with 20-30 people! Being outside was our best option, but the carport provided nice shade. We also set up the baby pool for the kids.

Michael made a bigger mess with his cake this time! Daddy taught him how to shove the whole thing in his face...great! Afterward, Michael just got in the pool to rinse off. He enjoyed every minute of making a mess, though!

Here are some pictures from the party...
This last picture is of Michael with all of his presents! Notice the wagon with the little train INSIDE and all the other presents around him. He got some great things from grandparents and friends!
